The ego is the individual human personality that uses its interlect for either positive or negative purposes. Selfless purposes are heart related which are positive and selfish reasons are head related which are negative. In life, there are these constant battles between heart and the head. We, as humans have choices between long term benefit and short term. Do we follow the head or the heart? I would say heart because life is of the spirit that lasts forever and head is that of body which lasts 10 decades the most.

Many martial arts suffer enormous pain with their joints and muscles. This is caused through either a bad warm up or incorrect practices in their martial arts. The difficulty today is that many teachers are badly trained or have very little experience in the correct methods of practice. A few simple examples of what I mean. Not pivoting on the foot that will be resting on the ground when certain kicks is being executed, or also not pivoting before forward, backwards and sideways movement. Locking of joints when executing certain techniques are very bad. There are countless other things that teachers do these days that are so bad for students. It is very important that students choose good teachers before they join a school. Numbers in a school do not determine the quality of the instructions; it is the background of the teacher and his/her lineage.

Unless ones life is already predetermined, destiny is governed by the choices we make. With most things, choice of doing what is good or bad determines a positive or negative reaction. Suffering results from negative actions. Our egos through the actions of greed, anger, pride, jealously, hate, lust brings upon great pain. If we can grasp this then no suffering will befall us. The path to a painless life is simple yet we allow our egos through our minds bring immense suffering. As the saying goes ‘Look before you leap’Or think before you act – is what I am about to do, is this good or bad, right or wrong. Is this action from the ego or from the heart. Put your self in the position of others that maybe affected by your action. Then nothing can harm you and no suffering will enter your life.
