Gogen Sensei was a phenomenal teacher with great skill and knowledge. Those who grasped his understanding and implemented his teachings did not missed the entire object of karate-do. Both openly he said and also what was expressed in his writings that True Budo(karate-do)practice is not tournaments. In a private meeting with him he told me that he was pleased I practice true Budo and not tournaments.

The body and mind are instruments of action and activity. Both must continue to function regardless of age or challenges. In most instances with age, the body weakens both externally and internally causing a build up of ailments. In many cases, slowing down of the mind too creates its own detriment. Many young people who do very little or no exercise seems to complain of different ailments creeping up. Traditional karate is one of the best ways for both body, mind and life. Goshin Kan Karate is one of the best forms of exercise to keep the mind and body very active. This is the one of reasons why students have been doing so well in all their duties such as school careers, work duties and family life. Our system is for body, mind and Life.

A karate-ka is never judged by the belt he wears, but by the depth of his humility and the strength of his character.

The art of karate-do was never created to show off ones abilities or to create attention to oneself by competing with others. It is purely a disciplined, defensive and self enlightening instrument for personal development. This form of self defence which is now known as karate-do was first exposed to the Okinawin’s when a Chinese servant was defending himself against an arrogant, self centred bully of a sumo who was the centre of attention of the town. Today, many have become the sumo and very few practice it quietly and secretly like the Chinese servant.

Without Gratitude, life has no meaning, Boasting about how much you now know is worthless especially if you do not acknowledge those who shared this with you.
