Christmas is a time of reflection on the year that past. There were moments of great joy and times of unpleasant experiences. Remember nothing is permanent, it is very much like a dream. What is important is your reaction to it all. We can become emotionally attached and allow it affect our lives or file it away. Real freedom is when we do not allow it to overwhelm us.

Through experience gain wisdom.

Through listening become knowledgeable.

I found that in sixties and seventies as I was growing up practicing Karatedo, there were true masters around us who had a sense of pride in their system. Traditional Teachers like Ray Ryan of Budo Kan, Leo Lip Lipinski for Goju kai, Jam Mohan from Zenuki, Stan Smit from Shotokan were just awesome teachers who had pride in their system, respected others and kept to their own. Each school was distinct from each other yet dynamic and no one copied what others are doing, stuck to their own traditional ways. Each system pure in its own right, had their own methods and stuck to it with dignity and pride. Teachers in each system respected teachers of other systems and even admired others and these greats were extremely strong powerful people physically and mentally.
