In the eastern martial art calling a teacher by his/her title is a great way of showing respect as well as admiration. A true teacher does not become one without making a great effort and self sacriface. I could not even think of addressing my teacher by his first name, never have and never will - that's me. I had to repremand a student of mine on a number of occassions when he would address my teacher by his first name. Although my teacher never demanded it, it was expected that those who practice karate-do would understand this. Its is not about putting a teacher on a pedistal, it about valuing a relationship(teacher/student) and knowing our place in the realm of things without ego getting in the way. Its called humility. Those who truely want to learn the ethical values of traditional methods of DO - make an effort as it is greater than any other way.

Maths of life
Add up the things that make you happy.
Deduct the things that make you sad.
Multiply our bad deeds against yourself.
And divide your good actions to get the right results.
