The only way to achieve your grade is to earn it through hard and intensive practice. Receiving it as a present ( as the Japanese masters would say) because you have contributed your time in assisting the organisation in some way is not a credible way of having a grade. I have seen many Japanese laugh behind the backs of foreigners who were given grades( presents) so that they can represent their styles in a overseas country. It is better to be a good low grade than a lousy high grade.

Goshin kan has just one agenda and that is, through the art of karate-do, to give our selfless service to society. We being doing this for the past 27 years and hundreds have benefited from this community service work. One of our Mothers, who have been a student of mine when she was a junior, sent me an e-mail and she said to me that she will have her child in no other organization than with Goshin kan even if it is a great distance away. As it is said service to society is service to God.

Most people who practice karate with intensity have their goals set on becoming a black belt or even higher. Work hard and do all tests given to you with courage and effort and be proud of your achievements. Remember only 3 in a thousand make black belt. It is said by masters that those who receive honorary grades for political purposes are a shameful way of receiving a karate grade. Some schools give kyu grade students a honorary grade of black belt to run classes so that the karate organization could be bigger in number. A person who has received a honorary doctorate cannot cure people.

Goshin kan teachings are from the traditional art of Karate-do. The students are taught the art so that they develop holistically. We do not believe in short cuts and half baked techniques. My teacher said study and practice the art so you can develop fully.

One of the greatest difficulties human's have is overcoming fear. Fear is an emotion that prevents success in anything we attempt. This is the reason why Goshin Kan’s teaching methods are based on love. We aim to help our students gain their full potential of being " Embodiments of Love" Then nothing can stand in their way of being successful in everything they attempt without fear blocking their path. It is said in the Holy Bible " It is love that casts out Fear". When I was young I struggled with maths through primary schooling. When I got to high school I had a teacher who taught us with love and we began to excel. All of us in his class was never afraid of maths, were never nervous at exam times and passed with distinctions. Love brings success.
