The students duty is to follow the disciplines of the dojo. The teacher duty is to teach students proper karate. If either is not doing their duty then how can it be called Karate-do.

Miyagi Sensei believed in Non violence, Gogen Sensei believed in Truth. I believe in Goodness. My karate teaches just that and those who practice Goshin kan karate know this from the first lesson. We all have a duty to do, mine is to teach goodness to all those who come to me to learn.

My master showed me the path that he struggled to find. If I move away from this I will be moving away from truth. He told me that karate-do is self defence nothing more and nothing less.
